چکیده

For 2-dimensional dislocation dynamics (DD) simulations under periodic boundary conditions (PBC) in both directions, the summation of the periodic image stress fields is found to be conditionally convergent. For example, different stress fields are obtained depending on whether the summation in the x-direction is performed before or after the summation in the y-direction. This problem arises because the stress field of a 1D periodic array of dislocations does not necessarily go to zero far away from the dislocation array. The spurious stress fields caused by conditional convergence in the 2D sum are shown to consist of only a linear term and a constant term with no higher order terms. Absolute convergence, and hence self-consistency, is restored by subtracting the spurious stress fields, whose expressions have been derived in both isotropic and anisotropic elasticity. ‡ Corresponding Author: [email protected] Model. A Generalized Fast Marching Method for Dislocation Dynamics

In this paper, we consider a Generalized Fast Marching Method (GFMM) as a numerical method to compute dislocation dynamics. The dynamics of a dislocation hyper-surface in R (with N = 2 for physical applications) is given by its normal velocity which is a non-local function of the whole shape of the hyper-surface itself. For this dynamics, we show a convergence result of the GFMM as the mesh siz...

Multiscale modeling of dislocation-precipitate interactions in Fe: From molecular dynamics to discrete dislocations.

The stress-driven motion of dislocations in crystalline solids, and thus the ensuing plastic deformation process, is greatly influenced by the presence or absence of various pointlike defects such as precipitates or solute atoms. These defects act as obstacles for dislocation motion and hence affect the mechanical properties of the material. Here we combine molecular dynamics studies with three...

Dislocation Emission from a Three-dimensional Crack | a Large-scale Molecular Dynamics Study

A series of massively parallel molecular dynamics simulations with up to 35 million atoms is performed to investigate dislocation emission from a three-dimensional crack. We observe dislocation loops emitted from the crack front|the rst time this has been seen in computer simulations. The sequence of dislocation emission in the process of crack blunting process strongly depends on the crystallo...

Testing the Convergence Clubs Hypothesis among MENA Countries

T his paper is to study the convergence of per capita income. Convergence clubs hypothesis is one of the forms of convergence hypotheses, implying that countries with the same initial level of economic development, technology, and government policies, tend to be similar in per capita income and thus have a tendency to cluster around a small number of poles. In order to test the hypot...
